LOVE MORE! It’s what we all need right now!
In today’s world, detaching and dismissing fellow humans as humans is easy. Humans who have thoughts and feelings. Feelings such as love, compassion, and empathy. The current structure is in the hands of people making decisions on my behalf, with which I can’t entirely agree. Decisions made lacking love, compassion, or empathy.
The simple message of “LOVE MORE” depicted in ASL conveys the intention of love from ordinary people. “LOVE MORE” is spelled out in ASL from hands covered in rubber gloves commonly used for cleaning.
I have used rubber gloves in my paintings for years now. I use them to symbolize duties, expectations, and even deception. I chose the colors from the original 1978 Pride Flag by Gilbert Baker for the rubber gloves in this piece. Since its introduction, the rainbow flag has continuously conveyed the message of love and acceptance. Each original color has significance. Sexuality, life, healing, the sun, nature, art and magic, serenity, and the spirit are all represented. These elements have become intrinsic to LGBTQ identity, culture, politics, and society, yet they are relatable to all human beings. The gloves also conceal any race or skin color. In today’s tornado of hate culture, I desire to convey a message of love, inclusion, and solidarity.
